Chuichi Nagumo (25 March 1887 – 6 July 1944) was an admiral in the Imperial Japanese Navy during World War II, overseeing the attack on Pearl Harbor. On July 6, during the last stages of the Battle of Saipan, Nagumo committed suicide; not in the traditional method of seppuku, but rather a pistol to the temple. His remains were later found by American Marines in the cave where he spent his last days as the commander of the Saipan defenders. He was posthumously promoted to admiral.

Attack can win in 1945

Na herança do "Vizinho Soares", também me calhou esta obra de Max Werner, intitulada "A Batalha Decisiva"("Attack can win in 1945" no original). Um documento histórico brilhante que escapou ao filtro do Estado Novo e foi publicado em 1945.

Esta obra mostra que não é necessário ter sido educado em ambiente castrense, é possível nunca ter frequentado a Kriegsakademie, os altos estudos de Paris, nunca passar por West Point nem por Sandhurst, para se ter conhecimento profundo sobre matérias militares. O estudo da guerra é uma matéria fascinante apesar de a mesma ser algo a evitar, mas o seu estudo, reflexão pode ser decisivo num futuro em que a paz esteja em primeiro plano.

Max Werner, investigador de espírito espartano, a par de Sun Tzu, Napoleão, Clausewitz, apresenta-nos, em 1943, antecipações que se confirmaram rigorosamente.

A edição é bem velhinha, da Editorial Século e, como já enunciei, foi editado em Portugal em 1945. De facto, é um grande documento da Segunda Guerra Mundial.
